Beacon Aerial is a Boston-area aerial photography studio working across real estate, weddings, and personal commissions. Built around a simple idea: the best aerial photographs come from knowing the place, understanding the light, and showing up at the right moment to catch them together.

The studio is operated by John Buchta, an FAA-certified drone operator based in the Boston area. Before launching Beacon Aerial, John spent a decade in enterprise technology, with a background in economics and physics — a foundation that feeds a lasting interest in the science underneath the craft: the aerodynamics of flight, the behavior of light and optics, and how both come together in a photograph. Equipment includes the DJI Mavic 4 Pro with Hasselblad imaging — the same camera technology behind NASA's Apollo moon missions.

AIRSPACE & AUTHORIZATION:

Most of the Boston metro area sits inside controlled airspace — meaning drones can't legally fly there without authorization from the FAA. Beacon Aerial handles every step of this process end-to-end through LAANC (the Low Altitude Authorization and Notification Capability), the FAA's official system for granting drone operations in controlled airspace. This includes the Class B airspace around Logan Airport, where most freelance drone operators either don't fly or fly without authorization. Shoots in Cambridge, downtown Boston, the waterfront, and towns around Hanscom, Beverly and Lawrence airports are routinely operated under valid LAANC authorization.

For clients, this means: no scheduling delays for airspace research, no last-minute "we can't actually fly there" surprises, and confidence that every shoot is operated legally.
